Why We Should Let the Rebumblicans Win in 2008
We are heading toward an impasse for Independants/Democrats (what are Democrats anymore, anyway?) in the coming Presidential election: who will take credit/blame for the Iraq War? It's an easy one if you take a cursory look at the issue: of course the Republicans will. It was under their watch that it happened, it was them who invented the reasons for going there, it is them who allowed (actually, PAID with tax breaks) the gas companies to profit off the war. It is my bet that no matter what happens, Exxon, et al, will win big. So much for my fellow soldiers blood... Here's the deal though--if the Dems win in 2008, they will be setting the country up for a Republic administration and house and senate again in 2012 and for a LONG time after that. How so? Who do you think will be held up as the culprits in this mess? It will be whomever is in office at the time--history has shown us that the American public has a short attention span, and it is likely that they will forget about the start of the war, but they will long remember the end of the war, and the results. The Dems are too mush-mouthed to start playing the marketing game the Reps have mastered. Because of this, they are seen as indecisive, and this indecisiveness is going to haunt the Dem administration, if they happen to win. Do you remember Kerry, allowing a chickenhawk to call into question his service record. The moment he let that pass without comment, he allowed them to call into question the records of EVERY soldier who has ever served. It will go the same way when we lose/win/withdraw from Iraq. It is time to look to the future: maybe it is time to let the Reps take responsibility for their crimes. Elect them for four more years!!
Good God, what did I just say?
